Mikhail Petukhov, Dmitry Masleev's professor, arranged Liszt's Spanish Rhapsody for piano and strings in September 1980, dedicating it to its first performers, Yuri Simonov and the Bolshoi Theatre Chamber Orchestra.

Compositional Technique

Mikhail Petukhov's arrangement of Liszt's Spanish Rhapsody adds a string orchestra as a separate polyphonic pattern, creating a new counterpoint that gives the impression of a large symphony orchestra.
