James Dillon, born in Glasgow in 1950, has had his music published by Peters Edition since 1982 and studied Indian music in the early 1970s.

The piano quintet the soadie waste is the second part of a projected 'Anthropology' cycle and its title refers to a local name for a social club in Rutherglen, on the outskirts of Glasgow, built on the wasteland of an old chemical factory.
