Gaetano Donizetti, though primarily known for his operas, composed a total of 611 works, including a relatively small proportion of instrumental pieces.
Instruments
Donizetti's Concertino for cor anglais was intended for an instrument in G, no longer in use, with a range a fourth lower than the typical oboe of the time.
Performer Biography
László Kovács, the conductor, made his conducting debut at the Hungarian State Opera at age twenty-one and has been General Music Director of the North Hungarian Symphony Orchestra since 1984.

This album was recorded at Festetich Castle, Budapest, from June 5th to 11th, 1994, with Tamás Benedek as producer and Gábor Mocsáry as engineer.
Composition History
The Concertino for cor anglais by Donizetti was written for a fellow student, Giovanni Catolfi, at the Conservatory in Bologna in 1816.
