Composer Biography

The Doppler brothers, Franz and Karl, were both born in Lemberg (modern Lvov, Ukraine) and received a strong musical foundation from their father, a composer and oboist at the Warsaw Opera.

Composition History

All pieces on this album, except for the Concerto for two flutes, were originally conceived with piano accompaniment and have been orchestrated for this recording at the request of Patrick Gallois, one of the flutists.

Performer Biography

Patrick Gallois, one of the flutists on this recording, studied with Jean-Pierre Rampal at the Paris Conservatoire and became principal flute in the Orchestre National de France at age 21.

Performer Biography

Kazunori Seo, the other flutist, has won numerous international awards, including Second Prize at the First Carl Nielsen International Flute Competition and the Fifth Jean-Pierre Rampal International Flute Competition.
