1/6Performer Biography
Duo Praxedis is a mother-daughter duo consisting of Praxedis Hug-Rütti (harp) and Praxedis Geneviève Hug (piano), who have performed together since 2009.
Album & Artwork
The artists of Duo Praxedis are known for wearing self-fashioned dresses made of Swiss embroidery and fabrics, which visually complement their music.
Recording & Production
Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov's 'Scheherazade' was originally arranged for piano duet by the composer himself, and this version forms the basis for Duo Praxedis's harp and piano arrangement.
Interpretation
The combination of harp and piano in these arrangements brings out melodic, harmonic, and contrapuntal details often submerged in the textures of four-hand piano playing.
Compositional Technique
Since there is little original music for harp and piano beyond the early classical period, Duo Praxedis creates its own arrangements of masterpieces originally for two pianos or piano duets.
Interpretation
Duo Praxedis aims to revive the instrumental partnership of harp and piano, which was popular in the early classical period but is rare today.
