Dupré's 15 Versets pour les Vepres du commun des fêtes de la Sainte Vierge, Op.18, were commissioned by Claude Johnson, Chairman and Managing Director of Rolls-Royce, after he was impressed by Dupré's improvisations.

Marcel Dupré was a prodigious talent, beginning musical studies at age seven and achieving numerous prizes at the Paris Conservatory in piano, organ, fugue, and composition.
Composition History
Dupré's symphonic poem Evocation, Op.37, was composed for the re-inauguration of the Saint-Ouen Abbey organ, which had been rebuilt after being dismantled during World War II, and was a tribute to his late father.
