Performer Biography
Marya Martin, the flutist on this album, is the only flutist to win top prizes in the Naumberg, Munich International, Jean-Pierre Rampal International, Concert Artists Guild, and Young Concert Artists International competitions.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Flutist Marya Martin, the driving force behind this project, found that the eight independently conceived pieces formed a natural grouping and reflected the "limitless possibility" of 21st-century composition.
Recording & Production
The Theodore Presser Company has published a sheet music anthology of all eight works from this album under the same title, "Eight Visions."
Composition History
The eight new works on this album were premiered by flutist Marya Martin at Carnegie Hall's Weill Recital Hall on March 20, 2007, shortly before this recording was made.
Performer Biography
Marya Martin, the flutist, is the founder and Artistic Director of the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, which has commissioned numerous works since its first season in 1983.
Composition History
This album is the culmination of a commissioning project started in 2005 by flutist Marya Martin, who sought to address a lack of engaging new repertoire for solo flute.
