Makar Ekmalian, an Armenian composer, conductor, teacher, and folklorist, was a student of Nikolay Rimsky-Korsakov at the St Petersburg Conservatory.
Cultural Impact
Ekmalian's Patarag (Divine Liturgy) was canonised in 1895 and is still used by the Armenian Church today.

Composition History
Ekmalian's magnum opus is the monumental Patarag (Divine Liturgy), a work for a four-voice mixed choir a cappella, which he completed in 1892.
