1/7Composer Biography
Anders Eliasson (b. 1947) is considered perhaps the most consistent and truth-seeking Swedish composer in his quest for a unique musical language.
Composition History
Eliasson's Quintetto per clavicembalo e quartetto d'archi was a commission from the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation, premiered by Eva Nordwall (harpsichordist) and the Arditti Quartet.
Composition History
Eliasson's work Disegno per quartetto d'archi originated from sketches for an earlier string quartet, Aurora, which he put aside for five years.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Eliasson's early music until the 1970s was characterized by deep shadows, which even inspired the title of his clarinet quintet, Ombra.
Compositional Technique
Eliasson used prime numbers to help structure his music, finding them mystical and useful for achieving a clear form.
Performer Biography
The Tale Quartet, formed in 1981, won first prize in the international Wlndberg Competition in Oulu, Finland, in February 1989.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Eliasson chose the title 'Disegno' (Italian for 'Design') for a series of works because he wanted to find a form as clear as glass, inspired by Japanese drawings.
