Enrique Fernández Arbós, a Spanish conductor and violinist, was born in the Lavapiés neighborhood of Madrid in 1863.
Composition History
Arbós largely stopped composing after becoming the principal conductor of the Madrid Symphony Orchestra in 1904, focusing instead on conducting and orchestrating works by his friend Isaac Albéniz.
Recording & Production
The bonus CD features historical recordings from 1928 of Arbós conducting his own music and his orchestrations of Albéniz, originally released on 78 r.p.m. gramophone discs.

Arbós held prestigious positions as First Violin in the Berlin Philharmonic and the Boston Symphony Orchestra, two of the most important orchestras of his time.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Arbós's orchestrations of Isaac Albéniz's piano works are considered among the few Spanish symphonic pieces to achieve international recognition, alongside works by Manuel de Falla.
