Bruce Hamilton's "Interzones" for vibraphone and tape creates a dialogue between the vibraphone and the audiotape, with sounds and motifs exchanged between them.
Performer Biography
Kai Strobel, the percussionist on this album, is a first-prize winner and audience award recipient of the 2019 ARD International Music Competition and the 2018 TROMP Percussion Competition in Eindhoven.
Interpretation
Kai Strobel often adapts works originally written for other instruments, like Tōru Takemitsu's "12 Songs for Guitar," for percussion, as the classical percussion repertoire is relatively new.
Performer Biography
Kai Strobel's experience in a jazz big band, including tours to the USA, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore, deeply influenced his approach to music, fostering joy and artistic exploration.
Interpretation
Kai Strobel chose a relatively small selection of instruments for this album – marimba, vibraphone, and two setups – to highlight their versatility.
Performer Biography
Kai Strobel's mother, a trained accordionist and conductor, had a particular fondness for percussion instruments, which influenced his older brother and then Kai himself to pursue percussion.
