Mozart developed a special fondness for fortepianos made by Anton Walter, a Viennese piano maker, and acquired one in 1784.
Compositional Technique
The fortepiano offers enhanced clarity, especially in the lower register, making the typical Alberti bass accompaniment less likely to sound muddy than on a modern piano.
