Fantasy - A Night at the Opera
3/8/2010, 9 Tracks, 1:14:46

Giulio Briccialdi, who created a version of Krakamp's 'La traviata' fantasy, was a flute designer and virtuoso flautist.
François Borne, a flutist and professor, contributed to flute development by inventing the split-E mechanism, which aimed to improve the top E note on Boehm flutes.
Emmanuel Pahud, the flutist on this album, describes the album's concept as 'A flute at the opera - conversing with the orchestra like a prima donna on stage'.
The Doppler brothers, Franz and Karl, who composed the 'Rigoletto' Fantasy, were outstanding flute players of their generation and added works for two flutes to the repertoire.
The emancipation of the flute in the early 19th century was largely due to Theobald Boehm, who introduced the first 'ring key' flute in 1832 and an improved metal flute in 1847.
Emanuele Krakamp, who arranged the Fantasy on 'La traviata', was a Sicilian-born virtuoso flutist who toured extensively and later settled in Naples to teach and compose.
This album was recorded in June 2009 at MCO 5 Studio in Hilversum, with Michael Fine serving as both producer and editor.
