Johann Friedrich Fasch (1688-1758) worked for thirty-six years at the court of Anhalt-Zerbst, a principality southwest of Berlin.
Historical Context
Fasch's music is primarily held in libraries in Darmstadt and Dresden, where his former Leipzig friends Johann David Heinichen (1683-1729) and Johann Georg Pisendel (1687-1755) held positions of authority.
Composition History
Fasch once presented a suite he composed under Telemann's name to his friends, and no one guessed the truth.
Critical Reception
J.S. Bach owned copies of six of Fasch's orchestral suites and arranged at least one of his trio sonatas for organ.
