Germaine Tailleferre's Trio was composed in two stages, with the first three movements written in 1917 and two additional movements added in 1978, almost sixty years later.

Maurice Ravel, a pupil of Fauré, began composing his Trio in March 1914 in Saint-Jean-de-Luz and was forced to finish it quickly due to the outbreak of war in August.
