Yevhen Stankovych, a Ukrainian composer, has written extensively for various genres, including 12 symphonies, and studied with Boris Lyatoshynsky and Myroslav Skoryk at the Kiev Conservatory.

Guido Lamell, one of the conductors on this album, is a violinist, violist, and conductor who has been with the Los Angeles Philharmonic since 1979 and has a close relationship with the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine.

Ralph Vaughan-Williams, the composer of "The Lark Ascending," paused his work on the piece and enlisted in the Royal Army Medical Corp during World War I, resuming composition only after his demobilization in 1919.
