Claude Bolling's suites for flute and jazz piano trio feature a fully written flute part in dialogue with a jazz piano trio whose interpretation is left to the improvisational skill of the jazz musicians.

This album is the second in a trilogy titled "Flûte passion: Claude Bolling"; the third album will be released in summer 2025, with a complete box set available in November 2025.

Interpretation
The flutist Nadia Labrie, who had not previously played with jazz musicians, intensively analyzed Claude Bolling's scores and recordings to develop her interpretation of the work.
Composition History
The Suite for Flute and Jazz Piano Trio No. 2 was commissioned by flutist Jean-Pierre Rampal, who wanted a new work after regularly playing extracts from Bolling's first suite.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Claude Bolling aimed to create a dialogue between classical and jazz music, rather than combining or 'jazzing up' classical works.
Composer Biography
Claude Bolling, the composer, was a virtuoso jazz pianist with classical training, having studied with Maurice Duruflé among others.
