Composition History
Mozart's Flute Quartets K. 313 and K. 285 were commissioned by Ferdinand Dejean, a surgeon with the Dutch East India Company and an amateur flautist, who offered 200 gulden for the works.
Compositional Technique
Mozart's Flute Quartet in A major, K. 298, is believed to be a musical joke, parodying contemporary popular styles, with its finale featuring a tempo marking that is a humorous contradiction.
Performer Biography
Anne Øland, the pianist, won first prize at the Nordic Competition for Young Pianists in 1978 and made her Wigmore Hall debut in London in 1981.

Mozart reportedly 'couldn't stand the instrument' (the flute) and rapidly lost enthusiasm for writing for it, despite producing music of immense charm and character.

This album is a re-release of original recordings, dedicated to Bjarne Boie Rasmussen, a violist in The Copenhagen String Trio, on what would have been his 70th birthday.

Kim Sjogren, the violinist, became concert master of the Royal Danish Orchestra at the age of 22, making him the youngest ever in the Orchestra's history.

Mikael Beier, the flutist, won First Prize in the Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende Competition for Young Musicians in 1972 and studied with Jean-Pierre Rampal every summer from 1972 to 1980.
