Francis Poulenc's Violin Sonata, written during the German occupation of France in 1943, is dedicated to the memory of the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca, who was murdered by Fascists.
Composition History
The first performance of Poulenc's Violin Sonata in 1943 featured Poulenc himself and the young French violinist Ginette Neveu, who tragically died in an air crash in 1949.
