Franz Xaver Scharwenka, a pianist, composer, and teacher, was born in Szamotuły, Wielkopolska, in 1850, to a German father and a Polish mother.

Łukasz Borowicz, the conductor, is the Musical Director and Chief Conductor of the Poznań Philharmonic and has received numerous awards for his over 120 recordings.
Recording & Production
This album is a co-production between cpo and Deutschlandfunk Kultur, recorded in July and September 2022 at the Adam Mickiewicz University Auditorium in Poznań.

Scharwenka was a Romantic composer who consciously resisted the new avant-garde tendencies of the 20th century.

Scharwenka founded his own Conservatory of Music, first in Berlin and later a branch in New York, where he also worked from 1891 to 1898.
