Compositional Technique
The word 'Concerto' originates from two 16th-century words: 'concertatum' (to battle, compete) and 'consertum' (to intertwine, quarrel), reflecting a dialogue or 'battle' between instrumental entities.
Compositional Technique
J.S. Bach extensively studied the 'a ritornello' structure of concertos, particularly those by Antonio Vivaldi, and transcribed many for organ or harpsichord.
Instruments
The organ used for this recording, built by Albertus Anthoni Hinsz in 1733-1734, was commissioned by dowager Anna Habina Lewe for the Petrus Church in Leens.
