Half of the pieces on this album are world premiere recordings, sourced from handwritten manuscripts in the Czech Museum of Music for which no printed parts were known to exist.
Composition History
After Fučík's death, his music collection was broken up, leading to the loss of many scores, but the Czech Museum of Music has collected what remains.

Composer Biography
Julius Fučík, the composer, began his musical training on violin and piano, later adding bassoon and timpani, and studied composition under Antonín Dvořák at the Prague Conservatory.

A team of specialists painstakingly prepared performing sets for seven pieces on this album from often poorly handwritten scores, making this a unique recording of original Fučík works.

Marek Štilec, the conductor of this album, is known for his interpretations of Classical orchestral repertoire and is a specialist in Czech Romantic and contemporary music, with over 30 albums recorded.
Composer Biography
Fučík gained worldwide fame for his march "Entry of the Gladiators," which became a staple in circuses globally.
