The album title "Labirinti" (Labyrinths) is inspired by a quote from composer Frederic Rzewski, who described music-making as escaping one's labyrinth by moving upward.

Composition History

Armando Gentilucci's "Le trame di un labirinto" (1986) is recorded for the first time on this disc.

Compositional Technique

Luciano Berio's "Sequenza IXb" for alto saxophone, a transcription of his "Sequenza IX" for clarinet, is part of a series exploring the technical and timbral possibilities of various instruments.

Composer Biography

The album features two works by young composer Andrea Siano (born 1997), dedicated to saxophonist Isacco Buccoliero (born 1998).

The saxophonist Isacco Buccoliero performs on a Yamaha Alto Saxophone, Yas 875 Custom - ex, with a Chiver Yamaha Alto Saxophone v1 gp Selmer Mouthpiece mod. Claude Delangle, and a JLV Sound Ligature.

Recording & Production

The album features five tracks, each presented as a labyrinth from which one might escape by moving upwards, a concept inspired by Frederic Rzewski's "Spacecraft."
