Glazunov's First Symphony premiered in 1882 while he was still at school, causing a sensation and quickly establishing him as an eminent Russian master.

Alexander Glazunov, a child prodigy, mastered the basics of musical composition in a very short time after two years of private lessons with Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov.

Glazunov was forced to leave Russia in June 1928 due to pressure from ambitious composers who were furthering their careers under the Bolsheviks.

Tadaaki Otaka, the conductor, comes from a musical family; his father was a conductor and composer, and his mother was a pianist.
Compositional Technique
Glazunov's symphonies, particularly his eight composed between 1882 and 1907, are considered an encyclopedia of Russian music of that period.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Glazunov, though not receptive to modern musical tendencies, showed great tolerance, as attested by Sergei Prokofiev and Dmitri Shostakovich.
Composition History
Glazunov's Symphony No. 2 is dedicated to the memory of Franz Liszt, whom Glazunov met in Weimar in 1884.
