Goethals was a pioneer in electronic music, co-founding the Institute for Psycho-acoustics and Electronic Music (I.P.E.M.) in 1962 and creating his first electro-acoustic composition, Diálogos, in 1963.

Lucien Goethals, the composer, was born in Ghent, Belgium, but his family emigrated to Argentina in 1934, making Spanish his mother tongue.

Goethals believed in integrating new electro-acoustic means with established instrumental music, viewing them as complementary rather than separate.

Lucienne Van Deyck, the mezzo-soprano on this album, is a Mahler specialist and all of Lucien Goethals' works for mezzo-soprano were conceived for and premiered by her.
