Composer Biography

Hermann Goetz suffered from tuberculosis from a young age, which ultimately led him to move to Switzerland in 1863 in hopes of recovery in the alpine air.

Compositional Technique

For his Piano Quintet in C minor, Hermann Goetz used the same instrumentation as Schubert's 'Trout Quintet,' featuring piano and all four string instruments, including a double bass.

Violinist Marina Chiche plays a G. Gagliano violin from 1762, and cellist Niklas Schmidt plays a Rogeri cello from Brescia dating back to 1700.
