Grace Williams, the composer, grew up in Barry, South Wales, where her father was a conductor and encouraged a musically adventurous childhood.

Critical Reception

Despite her biographer Malcolm Boyd crediting her vocal works as 'of the highest quality and originality', listeners had to wait until 2017 to hear any of Grace Williams' voice/piano songs.

Recording & Production

This album features world premiere recordings of Grace Williams' 'To Death' from 1953 and the folk song 'Mari Lwyd' from the 1920s.

Composer Biography

Grace Williams studied at the Royal College of Music under Ralph Vaughan Williams, a renowned English composer, and in Vienna with Egon Wellesz, an Austrian composer and musicologist.
