Franz Liszt saw Grieg's Piano Concerto in manuscript and, to the composer's astonishment, played it through faultlessly at sight.
Performer Biography
Bella Davidovich, the pianist on this recording, was one of the Soviet Union's pre-eminent artists and won First Prize in the Chopin Competition in Warsaw in 1949.
Composition History
Grieg's Holberg Suite was commissioned to mark the centenary of the birth of Ludwig Holberg, a Norwegian-born writer and leading representative of the Scandinavian Enlightenment.
Composer Biography
As a student in Leipzig, Edvard Grieg objected to the 'dryness' of normal piano instruction and changed teachers to one who instilled in him a love of Schumann.

This album was recorded in May 1989 at the Seattle Center Opera House in the USA, with Amelia S. Haygood as Executive Producer and Adam Stern as Recording Producer.
