1/7Album & Artwork
This album is part of "The Music of Brazil" series, which aims to promote music by Brazilian composers dating back to the 18th century.
Compositional Technique
Guarnieri's Choros often conjure the soundscape of Brazil's 'outback' regions (sertões), grasslands (cerrados), festivals, and celebrations.
Compositional Technique
The final movements of Guarnieri's Choros invariably draw on the rhythms of Brazilian dances such as the baião, maracatu, and embolada, with warm percussion writing and metric changes.
Recording & Production
Many works recorded for "The Music of Brazil" series, including this one, are world premiere recordings or have never been available outside Brazil.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Camargo Guarnieri, the composer, intended the term 'choro' in his works to be a Brazilian version of the concerto genre, featuring dialogue between soloist and orchestra.
Composition History
An important part of this project involves preparing new or first editions of the scores, as many were previously only available in the composer's manuscript.
Composer Biography
The work Flor de Tremembé is dedicated to Camargo Guarnieri's second wife, Anita Queiroz de Almeida e Silva, who was born in Tremembé, Brazil.
