Guido Alberto Fano served as director of conservatories in Parma, Naples, and Palermo before returning to teach piano at the Conservatory of Milan.

Guido Alberto Fano, the composer, spent his early career studying in Padua with Cesare Pollini and in Bologna with Giuseppe Martucci.
Composition History
Many of the compositions on this album, including the Fantasia Sonata, are unpublished and were accessed through photocopies of manuscripts from the Fano Archives.
Compositional Technique
Fano's transcription of Bach's Sonata BWV 1016 for violin and harpsichord significantly alters the harpsichord part for piano, creating a magnified, organ-like sound.
