The Six Popular Pictures, Op. 5, are piano arrangements of rebetika songs that were initially unknown but later gained wide popularity after Hadjidakis's lecture on their importance.

Manos Hadjidakis' piano music combines Western European musical trends with melodic designs based on ancient Greek scales, Asia Minor song and dance traditions, and rebetika (urban street songs).
Performer Biography
Danae Kara, the pianist, is known for her pioneering performances of Greek classical music, including the world première of Nikos Skalkottas's monumental Third Piano Concerto in 2003.
Compositional Technique
Rhythmology, Op. 26, Hadjidakis's last piano composition, features six pairs of pieces where the first piece of each pair is based on an odd rhythm (5/8, 7/8, 9/8, etc.).
Composition History
Rhythmology, Op. 26, was completed in New York City in 1971 and is dedicated to the Nobel Prize-winning poet George Seferis, whose death coincided with its completion.

This recording was made at the Athens Concert Hall in Athens, Greece, on August 24, 1995, using a Steinway Model D piano.

Manos Hadjidakis, the composer, is widely known for his song 'Never on Sunday,' which won an Oscar for Best Original Musical Score in Hollywood in 1960.
