Did you know?
1/6Composition History
The album originated from a core of pieces the composer wrote specifically about Antarctic penguins for a Greenpeace project in autumn 2018.
Compositional Technique
The album uses gut-stringed violins, violas, and cello alongside modern instruments to create an otherworldly effect, similar to a 1970s FM synthesizer.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The composer envisioned an anthropomorphized world where the four native Antarctic penguin species—Emperors, Gentoos, Adelies, and Chinstraps—have narratives and adventures that are soundtracked.
Compositional Technique
The album incorporates both an upright piano and traditional Blüthner grand pianos to achieve a wider range of piano sounds, with the upright offering a plaintive, bell-like quality.
Composer's Artistic Vision
The album's concept is based on an imaginary Antarctic, representing creativity where vast, empty spaces with underlying beauty provide a perfect context for creation.
Composer Biography
The composer decided to pursue a Master of Music degree and focus on composing after an expedition re-creating Scott's 1911 Antarctic trip.
