Hans Sommer's Piano Quartet in G minor, his only work in this genre, was likely premiered in 1870 at a private musical soirée in his parents' home, and possibly never performed publicly again during his lifetime.

Trio Imàge, the ensemble performing on this album, won the ECHO Klassik prize in 2014 for their debut recording of Mauricio Kagel's complete piano trios.

All works on this album, except for the Gavotte, are unpublished and were recorded in September 2014 at the Jesus-Christus-Kirche in Berlin.

Hartmut Rohde, the violist featured on this album, is a professor at the University of the Arts Berlin and an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Music London.

Hans Sommer, a German Late Romantic composer, initially pursued a successful scientific career, culminating in his appointment as director of a technical university in Braunschweig in 1875.
