Composition History

The work "Triptychon" was written for the 65th birthday of composer Hans-Joachim Hespos and challenges his view that new music no longer needs old material.

Compositional Technique

In "Konzertstücke II," the second and third movements are heard simultaneously, with the third movement attempting to build a complete harmonic chord to match the harmonic series of the first movement.

Composer Biography

Johannes Harneit, the composer, conductor, and pianist, has been the music director at the Hanover State Opera since 2001/02 and principal conductor of the Leipzig Sinfonietta since 2003.

Interpretation

The Leipzig Sinfonietta aims to combine new and old music in through-composed programs, with a passion for working with fragments and new music.

Compositional Technique

The piece "Doubles" opens with a childlike composition in a naive tonality, which then sinks and re-emerges as a double bass cadenza, before incorporating a quotation from Orlando Gibbons' "Pavane."

In "Ohne Leben Tod," twenty-six couplets by Daniel Czepko are set to music, played simultaneously, and read aloud by the musicians during their pauses, creating an impression of a vacillating group.
