Haydn wrote piano sonatas all across his long career, from the 1750s to 1795. The eight performed here by Tuija Hakkila span some 15 years of his early adulthood. Hakkila performs on her own original Viennese fortepiano from the 1790s for six sonatas, and on a copy of a Gottfried Silbermann instrument for the remaining two.
