Composition History
Haydn, the composer, wished for his Symphony No. 87 to be the first in the Artaria edition of his 'Paris' Symphonies, but the publisher ignored his request.
Compositional Technique
Haydn's Symphony No. 87 features a difficult oboe solo in its Trio, which rises to a high E over a modest string accompaniment.
Historical Context
The Concert Olympique, a musical institution, had to cease its concerts in December 1789 when the royal family was forced to move into the Tuileries Palace, where their concerts were held.
Album & Artwork
The title "L'Impatiente" for Haydn's Symphony No. 87 was chosen by the audience during a tour, from over two hundred suggestions.
Recording & Production
The album features two distinct recording sessions: one for Haydn and Ragué at the Auditorium du Louvre in October 2018, and another for Sacchini, Gluck, Lemoyne, Vogel, and Grétry at the Conservatoire Jean-Baptiste Lully in March 2019.
Historical Context
After the French Revolution, the musicians of the former Concert Olympique tried to re-establish their institution, announcing a new 'Concert Olympique' in 1795, a title that brought back 'sweet memories' and imposed 'great obligations'.
