1/6Composition History
Sven-David Sandström's "Heavy Metal" was composed in autumn 1991 as a thank you to the Stockholm Chamber Brass for their musical participation at his wedding in summer 1989.
Recording & Production
The Stockholm Chamber Brass selected a repertoire of relatively recent original compositions for this recording, noting the limited historical repertoire for brass quintets.
Compositional Technique
Jan Bach's "Laudes" is a musical pun: its title, pronounced "Loud-Ays," refers to the ecclesiastical term and also to a "loud concert A" found in each movement.
Instruments
The trumpeters, Urban Agnas and Joakim Agnas, on this recording both play Monette C Trumpets and Monette Mouthpieces.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Torbjörn Iwan Lundquist's "Scandinavian Music" was inspired by the harsh, uncompromising conditions and natural phenomena of the Arctic, aiming to create life in its most primitive yet intense form.
Performer Biography
The Stockholm Chamber Brass, formed by a group of young virtuosos, won first prize at the International Festival of Chamber Music in Narbonne, France, in 1988.
