Philippe Hersant, born in Rome in 1948, studied composition at the Conservatoire national supérieur de musique de Paris with André Jolivet.

Most of the bassoon pieces on this album, except for "Hopi," were written for and in close collaboration with musician Pascal Gallois, who inspired many instrumental effects.
