Ysaÿe wrote his best-known work, the Six Sonatas for violin solo Op. 27, at the age of 65 after returning to Belgium in July 1923, dedicating each sonata to a young European violinist.

Ysaÿe was a disciple of renowned masters Henri Vieuxtemps and Henryk Wieniawsky, and also mentored and inspired violinists like Fritz Kreisler, Josef Szigeti, and George Enescu.
