Ignaz Joseph Pleyel's string quintets were largely ignored by musical scholarship because no scores or reprints were available until the International Pleyel Society began creating a complete scientific edition.

This recording features Pleyel's third group of String Quintets (Ben 277-279), which were completed between 1786 and 1789 and are set in three movements.
Composer Biography
Pleyel founded a highly successful music publishing house in Paris in 1797, which offered some 4000 titles, including Haydn's complete string quartets and works by Beethoven and Mozart.
