Performer Biography
The Asasello-Quartett, a European ensemble, was founded in 2000 by students in Walter Levin's chamber music class at the Basel Music Academy.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Lisa Streich's work (ENGEL, . . .) NOCH TASTEND explores the unpredictable 'in-between sounds' concealed behind written notes, with the music itself acting as another performer.
Composer Biography
Viera Janárčeková, born in former Czechoslovakia, emigrated to West Germany in 1972 for political reasons and expanded her compositional horizons at the Darmstadt summer courses.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Márton Illés, the composer of String Quartet No. 3, aims to adapt contemporary string techniques to his own musical language, creating forms with clear physiognomy and expressive precision.
Compositional Technique
Viera Janárčeková's String Quartet No. 8, 'entrückt', is written in slight scordatura, with the fourth strings retuned to specific overtones of D, and uses four complementary microtonal modes.
Recording & Production
This album is a co-production with Deutschlandfunk and was recorded at the Deutschlandfunk Kammermusiksaal in Cologne, Germany, in October 2018.
