Performer Biography

Juan José Mena, the conductor, began his musical training at the Vitoria-Gasteiz Conservatory and later studied conducting in Germany with Sergiu Celibidache.

Critical Reception

Upon his return to Bilbao in 1914, the response to Isasi's overtly Germanic music was lukewarm, leading him to compose in seclusion.

Andrés Isasi, the composer, developed his love for music by playing the piano at his grandfather's house after his parents' death.

This album was recorded at the Palacio Euskalduna in Bilbao, Spain, from August 29th to 31st, 2001.

Composer's Artistic Vision

Isasi's passionate interest in nature led him to work on 'Ornitofonía,' a study of bird songs and their variants, intended as a resource for his music.

Composition History

Isasi moved to Berlin in 1910 to study with Karl Kampf and Engelbert Humperdinck, who provided him with extensive instruction in larger symphonic forms.
