The English Suites are believed to have been composed around 1713 or later, based on similarities to François Couperin's 1713 publication of Pièces de clavecin.

The designation "English Suites" comes from an early copy made by Bach's youngest son, Johann Christian Bach, which included the note "fait pour les Anglois" (made for the English).
Instruments
The harpsichord used for this recording was made by Titus Crijnen in 2013, modeled after a Blanchet instrument from 1730.
