This recording was made at Master Chord Studio, London, on April 9th, 10th, and June 4th, 2018, using a Steinway & Sons Model D Concert Grand Piano.

The Well-Tempered Klavier was conceived during Bach's period of incarceration in November 1717, when he was without access to any musical instrument.
Performer Biography
Brenda Lucas Ogdon graduated with Honours from the Royal Northern College of Music in 1957 and later married fellow student John Ogdon in 1960.
Composition History
Bach's Well-Tempered Klavier, Book 1, completed in 1722, included reworkings of eleven preludes from his earlier Klavierbüchlein für Wilhelm Friedemann Bach, a teaching manual for his eldest son.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Bach's Well-Tempered Klavier was intended for 'musical youth desirous of learning' and 'the pastime of those already skilled in this study'.
