The new critical Strauss Edition, led by Michael Rot, is based on over 3,000 sources and will comprise 70 volumes upon completion, with extensive critical commentary for each score.

Anima Eterna collaborated with dancers Édith Lalonger and Patrick Nollio to research the authentic relationship between Strauss's music and dance, particularly regarding tempi and movement.

Anima Eterna, the orchestra on this recording, plays on historical Viennese instruments from the second half of the 19th century to achieve an authentic sound.
Recording & Production
The conductor, Jos van Immerseel, initially found Johann Strauss's music "a bit cheap" but was convinced to undertake this project after reviewing new critical editions of the scores.
