John Thomas had to switch from the Welsh triple harp to the pedal (or double-action) harp, invented by Sebastian Érard in 1801, which required learning to play with the opposite hand configuration.

The Duo Praxedis, consisting of mother and daughter Praxedis Hug-Rütti (harp) and Praxedis Geneviève Hug (piano), is reanimating the forgotten tradition of works for harp and piano.

This album is the fifth and final volume in a series documenting John Thomas's complete duos for harp and piano, including two previously unpublished arrangements from the National Library of Wales.

John Thomas, a Welsh harpist and composer, was born on St David's Day, March 1, 1826, a fact he considered significant throughout his life.

At the age of twelve, John Thomas won first prize at the 1838 eisteddfod competition in Abergavenny, receiving a valuable Welsh triple-harp.
Composer's Artistic Vision
John Thomas was honored with the bardic title 'Pencerdd Gwalia,' meaning 'Chief of Welsh Musicians,' for his tireless commitment to Welsh music.
