Composer Biography
Carrillo's musical talent was recognized early; at age ten, his teacher took him to San Luis Potosí to study music, and he later played funeral responsories at the Cathedral.

Carrillo's early works, including his first two symphonies and the opera Matilde ó México en 1810, are from his traditional, tonal, and late-Romantic compositional period between 1899 and 1910.

This album features the first recording of Julián Carrillo's Second Symphony, which was revised and reworked by the composer in 1957 for a performance at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.

Julián Carrillo Trujillo, a Mexican composer, conductor, violinist, and acoustic researcher, was the youngest of nineteen children born to Native American peasants.
Composer's Artistic Vision
Around 1900, Carrillo became a pioneer in microtonal music, which he called 'Sonido 13' ('13th Sound'), earning recognition from composers like Bartók, Stravinsky, and Milhaud.
