Conradin Kreutzer, a German composer, was a virtuoso on the panmelodicon, an instrument that used a keyboard and rotating cylinder to reproduce sounds of various instruments.

Mozart's Bassoon Concerto in B flat major, KV 191, completed in 1774 when he was eighteen, is believed to be his first concerto written for a wind instrument.

This album was recorded in Studio 7, New Broadcasting House, Manchester, with the Mozart and Kreutzer pieces recorded on November 4, 2009, and the Rossini and Crusell pieces on January 20, 2010.

Bernhard Crusell, a Swedish composer, wrote his Bassoon Concertino in 1829 for his son-in-law Frans Preumayr, a renowned bassoon virtuoso, who needed a new piece for an upcoming concert tour.
