Recording & Production

In 1912, Kathleen Parlow was signed by the Columbia Record Company in New York, with her first records released alongside those of the legendary violinist Eugene Ysaÿe.

Instruments

A wealthy Norwegian patron purchased a 1735 Guarneri del Gesù violin, which had previously belonged to Viotti, for Kathleen Parlow.

Kathleen Parlow, a Canadian violinist, was born in Calgary in 1890 and began studying violin at age five in San Francisco.

Kathleen Parlow was only 19 when the Gramophone Company (HMV) engaged her to make her first recordings, offering her a special 'artist royalty' of 10%.

The Norwegian composer Johan Halvorsen dedicated his violin concerto to Kathleen Parlow in 1909, which she premiered to great acclaim in Holland.

Leopold Auer, Kathleen Parlow's teacher, was so impressed with her playing that he frequently referred to her as 'Elman in a skirt,' comparing her to his star pupil Mischa Elman.
