Performer Biography
In 2016, Constantin Hartwig was a prize-winner at both the German Music Competition (Deutscher Musikwettbewerb) and the Aeolus International Competition for Wind Instruments.
Interpretation
Constantin Hartwig titled his debut CD "Klischee ade" (Goodbye to clichés) to challenge common perceptions of the tuba as only a deep, ponderous brass band instrument.
Performer Biography
Constantin Hartwig, the tuba player on this album, began playing the tuba at age 13, initially taught by his father Rainer Hartwig.
Interpretation
For this album, Constantin Hartwig focused on program selection that uses the tuba as both a solo and accompanying instrument to showcase its extensive tonal range.
Recording & Production
The recording of John D. Stevens' "The Liberation of Sisyphus," which features solo tuba, four tubas, and four euphoniums, was so loud that the performers questioned if the auditorium could handle it.
